Jodi Taylor ist für mich die literarische Entdeckung des Jahres. Ein gut zu lesendes Englisch (selbst für mich, der ich Englisch eigentlich nur in den Grundlagen beherrsche), eine tolle Idee und - ganz wichtig für mich - ein trockener, oft völlig unerwarteter Humor. Zu der guten Bewertung trägt bei, dass die Autorin nicht versucht, alles zu erklären. Manches ist eben so, und fertig. Die Romanzen kommen etwas unromantisch daher, was mir ebenfalls gefällt.Sicher, die Bücher habe hier und da einige Längen, die das Lesevergnügen aber nicht stören. Sowohl ich als auch meine Tochter haben alle bisherigen 4 Bände und einige der Kurzgeschichten gekauft. Wir haben schon lange nicht mehr soviel über Bücher gesprochen. Sehr verdiente 5 Sterne!
Very fast paced, many major events, great heroine - I could not put it down and ordered the next installments (which are just as good) right away. The presented concept of "investigating major historical events in their contemporary time" aka time travel is an intriguing one and I learned quite a bit about history along the way. One of my favorite series (even though I normally read only mysteries).St. Mary's is a great place with great people (with one or two exceptions), a great sense of humor and somehow a magnet for major desasters - easy to connect to.I recommend it to anyone who likes his or her books with a dash of humour and desaster.
I'm not a big fan of time travel fiction, but started this book anyway because of other readers reviews. It sounded like fun and, well, it was. Once I started reading the fine humour and overall style got to me. The story itself develops quite a lot of unexpected twists to keep you guessing, the action is good, and the suspense level high. I even liked the love story and I'm male and not a reader of romance novels.Overall this is a finely written adventure novel for fantasy/SciFi/adventure fans and I will definitely have a look at the next part of the series. Although the book can stand for itself, it leads you to wanting more.
Ich hatte am Anfang meine Schwierigkeiten mit dem Buch bis zur Hälfte habe ich mich gefragt, was das eigentlich soll. Das vorstellen der Charaktere und des Schauplatzes braucht aber seine Zeit und wenn man sich die Zeit nimmt wird man mit einer Fantastischen Geschichte belohnt von der man nicht genug bekommen kann...
Mir gefällt der Schreibstil der Autorin sehr. Die Charaktere sind glaubwürdig, die Geschichte interessant. Ich habe mir auch schon das zweite Buch gekauft, weil ich so begeistert bin.
Jodi Taylor gelingt es eine abwechslungsreiche Geschichte zu erzählen. Ihre Figuren sind z.T. etwas dünn gezeichnet. Aber, die Idee mit den Abenteurer-Archäologen ist wirklich lustig. Leider sind einige Erkenntnisse nicht ganz nachzuvollziehen. Deshalb nur 4 Sterne.
Ja unsere englischen Nachbarn und Historiker insbesondere. Alles lässt sich mit einer Tasse Tee lösen. Ich fand diese Art von geschichtlichem Fantasy, mit einer guten Prise Romanze sehr gelungen. Die Vorstellung Zeitreisen durchführen zu können hat viele ja schon immer fasziniert. Tja und wehe man versucht etwas zu verändern... Ich gebe hier gerne 5 Sterne
